A wind advisory is in effect until midnight tonight for strong winds gusting to  55 mph, the National Weather Service said.

Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected, with isolated wind gusts up to 60 mph possible this morning.

A coastal flood advisory is also in effect locally until 1 p.m.

Expect inundation of up to 1.5 feet above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas near the waterfront, the weather service said. Heavy rain during the time of high tide may increase flood impacts, according to the advisory.

Gale warnings are in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday for the Long Island Sound, the Peconic and Gardiners Bays and the south shore bays from from Jones Inlet through Shinnecock Bay

Today’s NWS forecast calls for showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 4 p.m., then a slight chance of showers. Temperatures will rise to 56 by 10 a.m., then fall to around 46 during the remainder of the day. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
