Riverhead firefighters made a quick stop of a house fire on Deep Hole Road Monday evening.
Riverhead Police and Riverhead Fire Department responded to a call for a structure fire on Deep Hole Road in Calverton Monday at about 6:20 p.m.
Responding officers confirmed a working fire at the residence and Riverhead Fire Chief Pete Kurzyna called for mutual aid from nearby departments, including a rapid intervention team from Jamesport.
Firefighters were able to knock down the fire and bring it under control within 25 minutes, with “minimal damage” to the structure, Kurzyna said.
A female occupant of the home was evacuated and transported to an area hospital for treatment of burns. No further information was available.
In addition to Jamesport Fire Department, Wading River and Ridge responded to the scene of the fire and Flanders Fire Department stood by at Riverhead’s headquarters.
“We had an excellent response and a job well done,” Kurzuyna said.
Riverhead Fire Department responded with about 50 firefighters, two ladder trucks, four engines and a fire police vehicle, Kurzyna said.
