Suffolk County Vector Control plans to conduct aerial mosquito larvicide treatments by helicopter over marsh areas in Riverhead, Flanders and Southold between May 19 and May 22, weather permitting.

Treatments are scheduled daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. using low-altitude helicopter applications of VectoPrime FG, a granular pellet larvicide containing Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis and methoprene, according to the Suffolk County Department of Public Works.

Riverhead locations marked for treatment include:

  • Indian Island
  • Overlook – Aquebogue
  • Crescent Duck Farm
  • Millar Farm
  • Pier Avenue
  • Iron Point
  • New Suffolk
  • Point O Woods

County officials said no precautions are recommended for residents because helicopters will fly at very low levels over marsh areas and human exposure is considered unlikely.
