Update: The fire at The Home Depot in Riverhead involved two trailers parked at the rear of the store, Riverhead Town Police said in a press release Tuesday.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, a trailer parked in the rear of the store was “fully engulfed” in flames, and the fire eventually spread to a second trailer parked nearby, police said.
The Home Depot store was evacuated.
Riverhead Fire Department was dispatched to the fire just before 1 p.m.
Riverhead firefighters responded with multiple units to extinguish the blaze and were assisted by the Jamesport, Flanders, Wading River, Ridge, Westhampton and Hampton Bays fire departments, police said. Riverhead Ambulance also responded and stood by at the scene.
The incident is being investigated by the Riverhead Fire Marshal’s Office and is believed to be non-criminal, police said. Home Depot remained closed pending cleanup and removal of the trailers.
