Suffolk County Vector Control plans to conduct aerial mosquito larvicide treatments by helicopter over marsh areas in Riverhead, Flanders and Southold between June 16 and June 18, weather permitting.
Treatments are scheduled daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. using low-altitude helicopter applications of VectoPrime FG, a granular pellet larvicide containing Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, or Bti, and methoprene, according to the Suffolk County Department of Public Works.
Riverhead locations marked for treatment include:
Indian Island
Overlook – Aquebogue
Crescent Duck Farm
Aquebogue Farm
Millar Farm
Pier Avenue
The Iron Point marsh in Flanders is also marked for treatment.
Southold locations marked for treatment include:
New Suffolk
Great Hog Neck
Kerwin Boulevard
Pipes Neck Creek
Pipes Cove
Point O’Woods
County officials said no precautions are recommended for residents because helicopters will fly at very low levels over marsh areas and human exposure is considered unlikely.
The products used by Vector Control are registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and are applied in accordance with required state and federal permits, county officials said.
