The Riverhead Water District will begin flushing water mains in Wading River and Calverton on the evening of Oct. 18. The work will continue through Nov. 6, with most flushing taking place at night to minimize inconvenience to customers.
Customers in those areas should check their water before doing any washing during the flushing period, according to the district’s notice. If the water is discolored, the district advises running it for at least 15 minutes, preferably using a garden hose. If it does not run clear, wait one hour and try again.
