Early voting is underway in the Democratic primary between Luke Ventouras and Christopher Gallant for the NY-01 nomination.

Chris Gallant, a National Guardsman and former air traffic controller, and Lukas Ventouras, a law student, have both made early entries into the 2026 race to unseat Republican Rep. Nick LaLota.

Laura Ahearnand Laura Jens-Smith have declared victory in the Democratic primary elections in the First Senate District and Second Assembly District races.

Only Second Assembly District candidate Laura Jens-Smith of Laurel emerged from yesterday’s election with a commanding lead over her opponent, with nearly 78% of the votes cast. The races in the First Congressional District and Second State Senate District are close between the top two vote-getters in each contest.

There are just two polling places in the Town of Riverhead for this election: the Glenwood Village Recreation Center and the Riverhead Town Senior Center.Polls are open till 9 p.m.

Gershon won 35.5 percent of the vote, ahead of second-place Kate Browning, who gained 30.26 percent.

Democratic voters in New York’s First Congressional District will go to the polls June 26 to choose a candidate to face incumbent Republican Lee Zeldin in November.
