A fire did heavy damage to a home on Roanoke Avenue and sent one occupant to the hospital with lacerations to the head and burns to the face. Other occupants were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The vacant home, located on property owned by Riverhead town since August 2003, was fully engulfed in flames when first responders arrived at the scene Thursday morning, police said.

An overnight fire damaged multiple storage units at the CubeSmart self-storage facility on Mill Road in Riverhead.

Riverhead Fire Department knocked down a fire at the rear of the vacant former Toys R Us store on Route 58 early Monday morning.

All occupants were safely out of the home, according to Southampton Town Police at the scene. No one was injured in the incident, police said.

The fire, which caused clouds of dark smoke to billow from the gas station's mini-mart, apparently started in the food preparation area of the gas station's Subway, according to an employee.

It would take more than an hour for firefighters from multiple local departments to extinguish the flames, which at one point leapt from the roof and windows of the two-story house. When the smoke finally cleared, the blackened husk that stood in the place of their family's longtime home was unrecognizable.

The five-year veteran was treated for burns at Stony Brook University Hospital and released last night, Chief Kevin Brooks said in an interview.

Fire gutted a home in Calverton this afternoon. Residents were safely evacuated, but the two-story house on Alfred Way was destroyed.
