Most of the 2012 L.I. Champion Riverhead Blue Waves basketball team, including all five starters, turned out to play in a benefit game to support a girls youth basketball program.

No. 13 North Babylon exploded in the fourth quarter after trailing for most of the game. They went on a 23-7 run and blew the game open, knocking off No. 20 Riverhead, 56-41.

The Blue Waves improved to 12-1 in League III and 13-3 overall with a blowout win over Centereach last night, during their last home game of the regular season.

Defense wins championships, they say. But Riverhead head coach John Rossetti doesn't want to hear anything about winning a championship. The only thing he's worried about is today. "One game at a time," Rossetti said before the game. And today, defense prevailed.

Riverhead Blue Waves celebrated Senior Night by clobbering Centereach to close out regular season play.

The Blue Waves punched their ticket to the playoffs for the ninth time in 10 year tonight with a 64-33 win over Half Hollow Hills West at home.

Tyrese Kerr's dominant performance — game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds— lifted the Blue Waves to a 56-40 blowout win over Centereach yesterday in Riverhead.
