A bill introduced Friday by State Sen. Anthony Palumbo would amend a 2011 law that conveyed the armory to Riverhead Town, so the town can lease the site to the YMCA.

Wingstop, the popular chicken wing franchise, is opening a store in Riverhead this summer in the shopping center on the Route 58 traffic circle.

A used car dealership on the corner of Route 58 and Ostrander Avenue is slated to become a retail cannabis dispensary, according to a site plan application pending before the Riverhead Planning Board.

The Chick-fil-A restaurant, a 5,840-square-foot building with a drive-thru and patio seating will be built on the northwest corner of the Route 58 and Mill Road intersection, along with three other buildings for use as medical offices.  

Riverhead Town Code requires cannabis dispensaries to be located at least 1,000 feet from any school. Since Riverhead High School is only 735 feet south of the proposed site, the applicant needs permission of the ZBA. It met resistance at a hearing last week.
