Sound Avenue historic corridor

Planning Board members faced a lot of blowback from residents who packed the meeting room last night to demand the board reject the Ciderhouse's application to l egalize the already-built expansion.

The Town of Riverhead’s traffic planning consultants, hired in connection with the comprehensive plan update, have proposed widening Sound Avenue from about 28 feet to about 43 feet in order to create a two-way center turning lane and a five-foot bike lane on both sides of the roadway.

A proposed site plan for an expanded tasting room and other improvements at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard failed for a second time to win approval from the Riverhead Planning Board in a 2-2 vote with one abstention last night.

Suffolk County has preserved almost 140 acres of open space and farmland along the historic Sound Avenue corridor in Riverhead, County Legislator Al Krupski announced yesterday.
