The severe thunderstorm watch posted earlier today has been extended through 9 p.m. The watch is posted for Long Island, NYC, Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties and numerous counties upstate.
Some thunderstorms may be severe with damaging winds, heavy rainfall and frequent lightning, the weather service said.
