Of all the races I am casting my ballot for in the midterm election, the one that I am most excited about is voting for Chris Murray for State Senate. Chris’ concrete plans for making life more affordable for Long Islanders, his commitment to health care for every New Yorker, and his deep knowledge of topics including climate and higher education make him a breath of fresh air in a race that is too often overlooked.
Chris has committed to several steps that will improve the quality of life for Long Islanders, including reducing the sales tax by slightly raising income tax for the wealthiest New Yorkers. When working families struggle with rising costs, this proposal puts money back in our pockets. Chris also supports the New York Health Act, which would guarantee healthcare as a right for every New Yorker. We would no longer need to fear a medical emergency bankrupting our families, nor would we have to rely on our employer for health care.
Chris’s knowledge of environmental law is crucial to our region. With forever chemicals like PFAS in our water supply, his expertise on this issue will be invaluable for defending our drinking water. Chris also has experience in higher education, serving as a board of trustees member of Suffolk County Community College. Since Stony Brook University is a chief economic driver in our district, Chris’s background can inform his advocacy for our flagship university.
What I admire most about Chris is his moral clarity. He is unequivocal in his support for the most vulnerable groups, including children with disabilities and the immigrant community terrorized by ICE. He is unrelenting in his defense of civil rights and democracy, which is rare in today’s political landscape.
I look forward to voting for Chris Murray for State Senate District 1, and to having a representative in Albany who brings deep expertise, moral character, and solutions that help all Long Islanders thrive.
