Local children were treated to a special Christmas party yesterday courtesy of LIR Clothing, Tyre Lodge and Vines and Hops on East Main Street, where Santa Claus handed out more than 350 toys,
Anthony Harris, owner of LIR Clothing, organized the event with fellow members of Tyre Lodge 91. See prior story. Harris, who along with his three younger brothers was raised by a single mom, wanted to help families struggling to provide for their youngsters at Christmas.
“We had a great turnout,” Harris said this morning.
The interior of the cafe was decked out for Christmas by Perfect Partiez of Mastic, which provided a dessert table in addition to the Christmas decorations. “They really out-did themselves,” Harris said.
Harris bought and collected 475 toys — including a large donation from the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program— and Santa gave away about 350 yesterday, so now Harris is looking for leads on local families who could use some help making their holiday bright.
“I’m going to put the word out on Facebook today,” he said.
