Snow did not arrive overnight as forecast yesterday, but it’s still coming and will become heavy by mid-morning into early afternoon, the National Weather Service said.
Snow accumulation of four to seven inches is still expected in eastern Suffolk County, the weather service said.
A winter storm warning remains in effect until 4 p.m.
Snow will develop in our area toward daybreak according to the latest version of the winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service at 3:27 this morning. Temperatures will quickly fall to around freezing with the onset of the snow and may dip into the upper 20s in some spots, according to the forecast.
Eastern Suffolk we see moderate to occasionally heavy snow this morning, with a two to four hour window of snowfall rates of around an inch — possibly as much as 2 inches — per hour.
Northeast winds will blow at 10 to 15 mph, gusting to 25 mph. Visibilities will be reduced to one-quarter to one-half mile at times.
A small craft advisory in effect for the eastern Long Island Sound from noon through this afternoon. A gale warning is in effect from this evening through Saturday evening.
