A winter storm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for heavy snow tonight through tomorrow afternoon.
Total snow accumulations of six to 10 inches are expected, with localized amounts up to 12 inches possible.
Forecasters said there are still differences in the computer model guidance with respect to the track of the low as it passes near or just to the southeast of 40N-70W benchmark Tuesday morning. These difference are enough to impact the amount of snowfall across the region, the National Weather Service said.
A mixture of snow and rain is possible this evening, but a quick changeover to all snow is expected as the rapidly deepening low approaches from the south, according to the National Weather Service forecast discussion. The heaviest snow is forecast to develop toward midnight across the warning area and continue through the morning hours Tuesday before tapering off in the afternoon.
Northeast winds today will range from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, increasing to 40 mph after midnight. Tomorrow winds from the northwest will peak at 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
