Second-grade students at Roanoke Avenue Elementary School put on a poetry jam for family and friends May 17.

Students in Stacy Tuohy’s class showcased poems they had written and memorized as part of their poetry study unit. They discovered how to turn ordinary words into extraordinary words and learned about the importance of pauses, alliteration, similes and rhyming.
