Three Riverhead Town Police officers were recognized by the Town Board and the chief of police yesterday for bravery and quick action to disarm a suicidal man with a shotgun Sept. 25 in Riverhead.

Police officers William Bianco, Cameron Oswald and Giuseppe Rosini responded to a 911 call on Sept. 25 about a suicidal man with a shotgun in the Sunken Pond Estates condominium community off Middle Road, Riverhead Police Chief David Hegermiller said at yesterday’s town board meeting.

“Thanks to their brave and quick actions, they were able to disarm that subject and bring him up to Stony Brook [hospital]for a psychiatric evaluation,” Hegermiller said. “They did a great job and we commend them.”
