Riverhead Police have charged a Coram man with attempted robbery after he tried to forcibly remove a laptop from a woman sitting in her vehicle in the Walmart parking lot Wednesday evening.

Patrol officers responded to a 911 call about a disturbance in the Walmart parking lot at 1890 Old Country Road, Riverhead Police said in a press release this morning.

Officers determined that a man had had attempted to forcibly steal a laptop computer from a woman sitting in her vehicle outside the store, police said. The man, later identified as Derrick Dixon, 46, of Coram, was detained and subsequently arrested on a charge of Attempted Robbery in the Third Degree.

The Riverhead Town Police Detective Division was notified and responded to assist in the investigation, according to the release.
