Riverhead Supervisor Tim Hubbard on Friday announced changes being implemented to provide the public with more access to information related to Town Board meetings and work sessions.

A draft agenda packet, with resolutions to be discussed at the upcoming work session, will be posted on the town’s website at about 1 p.m. the day before a scheduled work session.

The Town Board’s meeting agenda will be posted on the town’s website at about 3 p.m. on the Friday before a regular Town Board meeting.

Correspondence submitted to the Town Clerk will be posted on the town clerk’s web page on the town’s website. Correspondence from the Town Board meetings of Jan. 3 and Jan. 17 has already been posted there. To access, click on “Town Board Correspondence” in the left menu on the town clerk’s page. The correspondence page can be accessed directly here.

Copies of correspondence received by the clerk will also be included in its entirety in the meeting agenda packet.

The supervisor said making these documents publicly available online will eliminate the need to file Freedom of Information Law requests to obtain them, as had been the practice.

The changes are intended to afford the public broader access to information, Hubbard said, in keeping with his pledge to increase transparency in town government. The supervisor asks the public to be patient as town staff make the necessary adjustments to comply with the time frames he has established.
