Updated- 5:40 p.m.: Snow is expected across Long Island tonight, with total accumulations of around 3 inches in the forecast, the National Weather Service said this afternoon.
A winter weather advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. today through 7 a.m. tomorrow.
Slippery road conditions could impact the commute to work and school tomorrow morning, the weather service said. Temperatures tonight will dip into the mid-20s and rise into the mid-30s tomorrow.
Riverhead schools will have a two-hour delayed opening tomorrow morning due to inclement weather in the forecast, Interim Superintendent Cheryl Pedisich said in a recorded phone message to school district families Tuesday evening. All before-school activities are canceled, Pedisich said.
To assist the Riverhead Highway Department with snow removal operations residents are encouraged to park their vehicles in the driveway, Riverhead Police said in a statement this afternoon.
Another weather system is expected to bring a wintry mix to the area tomorrow night. Snow, sleet and rain are forecast in the evening tomorrow, changing over to rain and sleet after midnight. Little or no snow accumulations are expected tomorrow night. Rain is expected to continue Thursday morning, with high temperatures in the mid-40s Thursday.
