Polish Town USA is once again the place to be on this second weekend of August for traditional Polish food, music, dance and time to celebrate all things Polish.
The Polish Town Street Fair and Festival kicks off Saturday morning at 10 with opening ceremonies on the main stage on the lawn of the Pulaski Street school. Following a special mass at St. Isidore’s Church at 11 a.m., visitors can watch the enactment of a traditional Polish wedding and a parade along Pulaski Street from the church to the main stage, where Polish folk dancers will perform.
This two-day event features live music on two stages, including performances by Zespół Windstar, a kids zone with pony rides, a petting zoo and games, a wide variety of traditional Polish foods and vendors, a beer garden, and classic fair foods and vendor booths.
The event is free to attend and takes place 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, rain or shine. The weather is looking good all weekend. Cloudy skies this morning will give way to sunshine later today, with a high of 82º F, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Sunday will be sunny with a high near 87, the weather service says.
Polka music with the John Stevens Polka Band, as well as traditional Polish food and brews are offered by the Riverhead Polish Independent Club outside Polish Hall this weekend from 12 noon to 5 p.m.
Road closures are in effect in Polish Town this weekend from a a.m. to 8 p.m. both days, Riverhead Police said. The roads closed to traffic are:
- Pulaski Street from Griffing Avenue to Marcy Avenue
- Osborn Avenue from Pulaski Street to Lincoln Street
- Lincoln Street from Hallett Avenue to Osborn Avenue
