Riley Avenue Elementary School celebrated “Old Glory” with the school’s annual Flag Day ceremony and concert on June 15, hosted by the school’s second-grade classes.
The event featured history, fun facts and music in recognition of the American flag and the freedoms it represents.
“The ceremony featured a mix of history, fun facts, and high-energy music,” Riley Avenue Elementary School Principal Gary Karlson said. “It was truly a celebration of our flag and the freedom it represents.”
Students across all grade levels wore red, white and blue for the occasion, and classes learned about the history of Flag Day.
Flag Day, observed June 14, commemorates the adoption of the United States flag on June 14, 1777. President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in 1916 designating June 14 as Flag Day, and National Flag Day was officially established by Congress in 1937.
