The League of Women Voters of the Hamptons, Shelter Island and North Fork has announced two virtual events: a debate between candidates for New York’s 1st Senate District and a public forum on voting rights and the 2026 midterm elections.
State Sen. Anthony Palumbo and challenger Christopher Murray will debate Monday, Sept. 28, from 7 to 8 p.m. Candidates will make timed opening and closing statements and answer questions contributed by community and League members.
A free forum on voting rights, election administration and election integrity will take place Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 6:30 p.m., featuring election law experts David Becker and Jerry Goldfeder.
Becker is founder and executive director of the Center for Election Innovation & Research and a former senior trial attorney in the U.S. Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division Voting Section. Goldfeder directs Fordham Law School’s Voting Rights and Democracy Project and chairs the American Bar Association’s Election Law Committee.
Andrea Gabor, the League’s Government Committee chair and a professor of business journalism at Baruch College, will moderate the forum.
Both events will stream live on Southampton Town’s SEA-TV YouTube channel, with recordings available at the same link beginning the following day.
