Temperatures at or below the freezing mark this morning may freeze residual moisture from last night’s rainfall, causing areas of black ice on local roads

An Eastport teen was airlifted with life-threatening injuries after a single-car crash on CR 51 in Northampton this morning. At about the same time, an East Hampton man was killed in a head-on crash with a Suffolk County Transit bus operated by a Riverhead man in Water Mill. Police said icy road conditions caused both accidents.

Frost and black ice have caused treacherous conditions on local roadways early this morning, resulting in multiple motor vehicle accidents, two of them serious.

Slushy, slick roads could lead to treacherous conditions as black ice forms overnight, according to the National Weather Service.
