After years of planning, fundraising and construction, East End Food will welcome the public back to its Riverhead hub in March.

Officials gathered at the East End Food Institute Food Hub in Riverhead Tuesday to celebrate progress on the facility, supported with a $5 million state grant. The secretary of agriculture & markets announced a new round of infrastructure funding at the event.

East End Food, the nonprofit that supports eastern Long Island farmers and food businesses, won a $5 million state grant to complete the construction of a year-round farmers market and shared commercial kitchen in Riverhead.

Marci Moreau has been named the new executive director of East End Food, which operates a farmers market in Riverhead.

East End Food is temporarily relocating its farmers market to Twin Fork Beer Co. on Raynor Avenue for the winter season. It is also asking for donations to complete renovations to its site on Main Road.

The East End Food Market will be operated outdoors during the summer months this year, while market operator East End Food Institute begins the first phase of construction on its new East End Food Hub campus. The market will be open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning May 27.

Riverhead's indoor farmers market, the largest on the East End, will feature more than 40 vendors featuring their locally sourced and hand crafted products. The market will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through April 20.

The East End Food Institute, which runs the indoor farmers market in Riverhead, has unveiled an ambitious multimillion dollar plan to develop a centralized food processing and distribution facility at its Main Road site.
