In a world where kindness seems to be ever shorter supply, fourth-graders at two Riverhead public schools want to spread kindness throughout the community.

Riverhead CAP collected nearly 100 pounds of unused and expired prescription drugs during a take-back event at the town highway yard – and this weekend, they plan to collect even more.

Riverhead residents can safely dispose of household hazardous wastes and unwanted prescription medications free of charge Saturday at the Riverhead Highway Department facility on Osborn Avenue.

A graduate of the CAP program while a student at Pulaski Street school, Riverhead Town's first Hispanic cop is now a CAP volunteer and role model who the kids relate to and respect.

Riverhead residents took advantage of the town’s household hazardous wastes collection day today, dropping off hundreds pounds worth of electronic wastes, solvents, used oil, old paint, pool chemicals and other substances that should not be landfilled.

A drug take-back event at Peconic Bay Medical Center collected an astounding 163 pounds of prescription and over-the-counter medications, bringing the total number of drugs collected to more than 1,500 pounds since 2014.

The Riverhead Community Awareness Program will hold its fourth annual "Bowling Bonanza" fundraiser next Tuesday, March 15 at the All Star bowling alley in Riverhead.

In addition to performing kind acts in their school and community, students from Aquebogue, Phillips Avenue, Riley Avenue and Roanoke Avenue schools and Riverhead Middle School, participated in the Kind Coins for Kenya challenge.
