The Lions Club’s Service Carnival will bring together local nonprofits and prospective volunteers at the Suffolk Theater on Oct. 19.

Riverhead Lions Club and the Suffolk Theater are teaming up for an event that aims to connect local service organizations powered by volunteers with local residents looking for opportunities to serve their community.

A new documentary by the Calverton-based Warrior Ranch Foundation tells the story of how horse therapy can help veterans cope with trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder. It premieres May 22 at the Suffolk Theater.

The Suffolk Theater will present its first live theatrical production this month, "12 Angry Men," a play about 12 jurors tasked with deciding a death penalty case of a teenage boy accused of murdering his father.

Riverhead Town has received $1.4 million from the state for its riverfront amphitheater project, and $187,000 for water infrastructure upgrades for the expansion of the Suffolk Theater, the state announced Tuesday morning. 

Riverhead held the first of two public workshops on the comprehensive plan update today at the Suffolk Theater. About 90 people turned out to hear the planners' present issues and participate in breakout group discussions.

Donald Longo, a private investigator and former Suffolk County Police sergeant, will speak on  how to identify the threat of an active shooter, cover the “run, hide, fight” response tactics used by the FBI, and how to identify and prevent a potential incident from occurring.

The Riverhead Town Board is ready to approve the preliminary site plans for a five-story mixed-use addition to the Suffolk Theater and a four-story mixed-use building on McDermott Avenue. The board will vote to approve the plans next week.

Riverhead will celebrate Juneteenth this year over the weekend with events hosted by community organizations and the Suffolk Theater.

The 59-foot, 4-inch tall addition on the rear of the theater will consist of an expanded stage and backstage area, including a new “green room,” dressing rooms, restrooms, kitchenette, laundry room, showers, and mechanical rooms, as well as approximately 2,970 square feet of first-floor retail space and 28 market-rate apartments on floors two through five.
