Riverhead Lions Club and the Suffolk Theater are teaming up for an event that aims to connect local service organizations powered by volunteers with local residents looking for opportunities to serve their community.

The Lions Club’s Service Carnival will bring together local nonprofits and prospective volunteers, giving community groups a unique chance to showcase their missions to people who want to help, said Lisa Pickersgill, one of the Lions Club members organizing the event.

The special event takes place in downtown Riverhead’s art deco theater on East Main Street Sunday, Oct. 19 from 3 to 5 p.m.

“It will be casual and fun and a great opportunity for the public to learn about service organizations that do important work in and for the community,” Pickersgill said. “And a great opportunity for these groups to spread the word about what they do and connect with new volunteers.”

The event is free to attend, compliments of participating community organizations.

Organizations must register for the event in advance. Registration is $100 per organization. Register here
