The Suffolk Theater raised $35,000 for humanitarian relief in Ukraine at its ALL FOR UKRAINE benefit concert Sunday. All the money raised will go directly to three charities: Ukraine: UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders and the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee. All staff, performers and a host of local businesses donated their time, talent and services for the event.

ALL FOR UKRAINE will raise money for UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders and and United Ukrainian American Relief Committee, organizations working to assist Ukrainians suffering from the effects of the war.

Nearly a decade after its rebirth as a performing arts venue, the Suffolk Theater is poised to make a new transition under new leadership, moving away from its cabaret-style, dinner-theater model.

Gary Hygom, former executive director at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts and 20-year producing director at Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor, will take the reins at the historic Riverhead theater on Oct. 15.

Suffolk Theater co-owner Bob Castaldi presented an updated site plan to the town board last week for a five-story expansion of the theater. He’s requesting the town board initiate a coordinated review of the project under the State Environmental Quality Review Act at its next meeting. He first filed the application in 2018.

Guests at the Suffolk Theater in Riverhead will need to provide their vaccination card, Excelsior Pass or proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the event to enter the venue. The first two shows of the theater’s reopening are scheduled for next weekend.

Country music star Lee Greenwood ("God Bless the USA — I'm Proud to be an American) will perform at the Suffolk Theater in Riverhead Dec. 3.

The Suffolk Theater will reopen on Aug. 27 after a nearly year-and-a-half closure caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The theater will require attendees to be fully vaccinated so it may operate at full capacity without social distancing.

With the governor's announcement this week that most businesses, including theaters, will be allowed to operate at 100% capacity as of May 19, the Suffolk Theater in Riverhead got busy trying to book acts in a hurry. "Coordinating the dates has been like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube," theater owner Bob Castaldi said.
