An East Patchogue man was killed in a single-car crash on the Long Island Expressway in Calverton Wednesday morning, Suffolk County Police said in a press release.

Police said Jeffrey Pogar, 65. was driving a taxi eastbound on the expressway just west of exit 71 when he veered off the road and struck a tree at approximately 7:35 a.m. Suffolk County Police detectives believe he may have suffered a medical event, according to the press release.

Pogar was transported by Manorville Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
