A car fire in an East Main Street parking lot did damage to a Manorville resident’s competition audio vehicle Thursday afternoon.
“I started it up, turned on the AC and just started seeing smoke,” said Anthony Waage, the owner of the car. “We got out and all the sudden it was engulfed in flames.”
Riverhead Fire Department responded and promptly extinguished the blaze. The car was parked in the parking lot across from the Hyatt Hotel on East Main Street when it caught flame. Waage said he just invested $23,000 into reoutfitting the car, which he uses in audio competitions across the island. His audio equipment in the car did not appear to be damaged.
No one was injured in the incident, according to police.
