Heavy rain on Thursday could make for a “slippery” evening commute, according to the National Weather Service.
According to Joe Pollina, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Upton, an area of low pressure is moving from the southest up the cost overnight and will bring rain to the area overnight and into Thursday.
The chance of rain Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, Pollina said, is 30 percent, with rain expected after 3 a.m; the chance of rain increases to 80 percent on Thursday, with temps expected to hover around 65 degrees.
Northwest winds of 15 miles per hour, with gusts of 30 miles per hour, are expected into Thursday night, when rain is expected to continue.
Storm totals are expected to total between 1.5 and 1.75 inches on the East End, Pollina said.
The rain could make Thursday evening’s commute difficult, Pollina said. “We haven’t had a good amount of rain in a long time, so it could be very slippery out there.”
Ponding, especially in poor drainage areas, could be a possibility, Pollina said. So far, no flood watches have been issued for the area.
