Riverhead Varsity Cheerleading squad placed first out of 25 teams at the UCA Pocono Regional on Sunday, securing a Nationals bid.
“I would like to thank everyone for their constant support,” head coach Stephanie Piraino said.
The team, which is comprised of athletes from Riverhead Middle School and Riverhead High School, made it to the national semi-finals for the first time in the program’s history last year. They will be returning to Orlando, Florida, for the National High School Cheerleading Championship in February.
The Riverhead Cheerleading booster club has a set up a GoFundMe page to offset costs for the season, including the trip down to Florida for the national championships.
