Riverhead’s streets will turn green with Irish pride this Saturday as the March of the Leprechauns pub crawl returns downtown for the second year in a row.
This year’s participating venues include The Suffolk Theater, Jerry and the Mermaid, Diggers Ales and Eats, Joe’s Garage, Perabell Food Bar, Vines and Hops, Crooked Ladder Brewery, Sonoma Grill East, Uncle Joe’s Pizzeria and Café and Blue Duck Bakery. For a full schedule and a peek at some of the specials, visit the pub crawl’s website. Specials will begin at 1 p.m.
This weekend’s March of the Leprechauns is just one of a series of wildly successful pub crawls held downtown in recent years, along with an Oktoberfest pub crawl and December’s Santacon.
Each event draws hundreds of costumed revelers to downtown Riverhead to enjoy food and beverage specials at participating venues.
Funds from the pub crawl’s $10 bracelets are donated to local not-for-profit organizations. Last year’s March of the Leprechaun’s raised more than $12,000 for local charities. (See photos from last year’s event)
Saturday’s March of the Leprechauns will benefit East End Emerald Society and the Peconic Ballet Foundation.
This year, “Flatty Paddy” will join the festivities as the official mascot of March of The Leprechauns. Participants can print out an image of the leprechaun (downloadable from the Suffolk Theater’s website) and post photos online with the hashtag #FlattyPaddy for a chance to win special prizes.
Each photo counts as an entry to the content. Winners will be drawn throughout the day, starting at noon. Prizes include concert tickets, gift cards and more.
Hotel Indigo and the Hyatt Hotel will be offering special rates on hotel rooms for guests who would like to spend the night. Brew Crew Cycles, a sponsor of this year’s March of the Leprechauns, will be parked outside Crooked Ladder promoting their spring and summer brewery tours.
Dancing with DJ Phil will begin at 5 p.m. at The Suffolk Theater. Bagpipers and Irish step dancers are set to make an appearance throughout the evening.
Bracelets are $10 and are available online at suffolktheater.com or by calling (631) 727-4343. Participants should bring cash and valid ID.
