Church of the Harvest in Riverhead served Thanksgiving dinner to more than 200 people in need yesterday, including 100 dinners delivered to homebound residents.
This is the 33rd year the church congregation has provided the free holiday meal for the community, said Jim Whalen, outreach coordinator. The 16 turkeys and all the trimmings were donated and prepared by members of the congregation. Volunteers have cooked and served the Thanksgiving dinner at the Raynor Avenue church for the past six years. Prior to that, the dinner was hosted at the Riverhead Grill, Whelan said.
