The Sound Park Heights Civic Association will host its annual memorial ceremony tomorrow evening at the 9/11 Memorial Park on Sound Avenue and Lt. Thomas Kelly Memorial Drive.
There will be a procession from Marine Street in Reeves Park to the memorial beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a ceremony at the four-acre park dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
The Reeves Park community has been holding a memorial service on the corner of Sound Avenue and Lt. Thomas Kelly Memorial Drive since 2010, even before the park itself was established in 2013.
“It has been 16 years and many have forgotten,” said Eric Biegler of Sound Park Heights Civic Association. “But we will never forget,” he said.
The tiny Soundfront community lost two residents in the collapse of the twin towers, both NYC firefighters who died trying to rescue people trapped inside the towers: Thomas Kelly, 38 and Jonathan Ielpi, 29.
