Riverhead honored its veterans today at the War Memorial on West Main Street, with a wreath-laying ceremony coordinated by the Riverhead Combined Veterans Committee.

Councilman John Dunleavy, a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Navy, was the featured speaker at today’s ceremony.

The ceremony was attended by dozens of residents, including Councilwoman Jodi Giglio, Councilman Tim Hubbard and Councilwoman-elect Catherine Kent.

Those in attendance were invited to the Riverhead American Legion post on Hubbard Avenue for “hot soup, hot dogs and a warm room,” Suffolk County American Legion Commander Mike Pankowski said, drawing laughter from the crowd.
