There is a risk for scattered strong to severe thunderstorms to move through the region this afternoon into early this evening as a cold front passes through the area, according to the National Weather Service.
The primary threat will be strong and potentially damaging wind gusts. The thunderstorms may also produce frequent lightning and large hail, according to a hazardous weather outlook statement issued by the weather service.
The thunderstorms are expected in the Long Island region from about 5 to 8 p.m., according to the statement.
Tomorrow’s weather forecast is similar to today’s, with partly sunny skies early in the day and a risk for scattered strong thunderstorms in the late afternoon and early evening.
The service said trained weather spotters are encouraged to report significant weather conditions.
