Two men have been charged in the attempted robbery Saturday night of a West Main Street liquor store, Riverhead Town Police said in a press release last night.

Police report the arrests Nicholas V. Lobianco, 36, and Andrew Rodriguez, 20, on charges of Attempted Robbery in the First Degree in connection with the incident.

An employee of Lucky Wines & Liquors on West Main Street in Riverhead called police on Saturday, April 29 at 8:11 p.m. to report that two men wearing masks entered the store with what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money, police said. Both men fled the store with no proceeds, according to police.

An investigation by Riverhead Police detectives led to the arrest of Lobianco and Rodriguez, police said. Both men reside in the same shelter in Riverhead, according to the press release. Police did not identify the shelter.

Lobianco is currently on supervised release with New York State Parole, police said. According to N.Y. State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision online records, Lobianco was released from prison on parole March 23. He was serving a sentence for a prior conviction of Attempted Robbery in the First Degree, according to state records.

Rodriguez was additionally charged with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, police said. He was found to be in possession of a stolen debit card removed from a parked vehicle on Hallett Street during the early morning hours of May 8, police said.
