A Riverhead man has been charged with murder following a dispute that led to gunshots last night in Patchogue.

Suffolk County Police arrested Brent Henry, 59, of Riverhead on a charge of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Ines Reyes last night on Amsterdam Avenue in Patchogue.

Reyes, of Bellport, was transported by friends to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead, Suffolk Police said in a press release this afternoon.

Police said officers responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired at approximately 6:30 p.m. Friday. Reyes was taken by friends to the hospital prior to police arrival, according to the press release.

Henry was arrested following an investigation by Suffolk Homicide Squad detectives, police said. He will be held overnight and will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip, according to the report.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
