Manorville woman tapped by Democrats in Second Assembly District

A Manorville woman has been named by the Democratic Party as its candidate for the Second Assembly District seat held by Republican incumbent Jodi Giglio.

Tricia Chiaramonte of Manorville is on the Democrats’ petition in the Second Assembly District, Suffolk County Democratic Committee spokesperson Keith Davies said in a statement Thursday.

Chiaramonte is the deputy director of human resources at the Suffolk County Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation, according to a Newsday profile of her 2023 candidacy for receiver of taxes in Brookhaven Town. Chiaramonte did not run an active campaign, according to a Times Beacon Record profile of the race, and lost to the incumbent tax receiver, garnering only 37% of the votes cast.

Davies did not provide a phone number for Chiaramonte at a reporter’s request. Chiaramonte did not immediately return a message sent via Facebook Messenger requesting an interview.

Giglio, of Baiting Hollow, was a Riverhead council member before being tapped by the Republicans to run for the Assembly in 2020. Her predecessor, Anthony Palumbo, ran for State Senate that year to succeed retiring State Senator Ken LaValle. Giglio confirmed in a text message earlier this month that she would pursue a third two-year term.

Giglio won election in 2020 with 56% of the vote and was re-elected in 2022 landslide with nearly 66% of the vote.

The Second Assembly District map was revised last year by the New York Independent Redistricting Commission, and signed into law, after the map used for the 2022 election was ruled invalid following that election. The district encompasses all of Riverhead Town and parts of Brookhaven Town that include Manorville, Shirley, Mastic, Moriches, and several North Shore communities west of Wading River up to and including Mt.
