Riverhead students recognized Board of Education members for their service during the board’s Oct. 14 meeting, with presentations highlighting their involvement in schools and support for student programs.
The recognition was held in observance of New York State School Board Recognition Week, according to a district press release.
Students from Aquebogue, Phillips Avenue, Pulaski Street, Riley Avenue and Roanoke Avenue schools presented tributes to their respective board liaisons. They thanked members for participating in school activities, supporting educational opportunities and helping create welcoming learning environments.
The presentations highlighted connections between board members and the school communities they serve. Students also emphasized their shared identity as Riverhead Blue Waves, despite attending different schools. Each tribute ended with an invitation for the board member to take a bow.
Students also recognized student representative Jarell Gilliam for bringing student perspectives to the board.
The students concluded their presentation with a quotation attributed to Booker T. Washington: “Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others,” which the district called “a fitting tribute to the spirit of volunteerism and service demonstrated by the district’s Board of Education.”
“The Riverhead Central School District extends its sincere gratitude to its Board of Education members for their continued service, dedication, and unwavering commitment to providing meaningful educational opportunities for all students,” the press release said.
