Helen Vito of Riverhead died on May 16, 2024. She was 89.
Born on June 12, 1934, in Newark, New Jersey, to Angelina (née Engargiola) and Frank Garruto, Vito spent a significant part of her career in aerospace sales and marketing for ITT in Nutley, New Jersey. After moving to Riverhead, she worked in sales at Renee’s in Mattituck.
She was predeceased by her brother, Sam Garruto. Surviving family members include her children, Debra Timpone (Bruce) of Mattituck and Joseph Vito (Gail) of Secaucus, New Jersey; grandchildren Nicole Timpone Santos and Carl Timpone; and great-grandchildren Olivia Santos and Leo Santos.
Visitation will be held on May 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck, where funeral services will be held at 6 p.m., officiated by Father Michael Bartholomew. Entombment will take place on May 22 at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum in North Arlington, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
