The National Weather Service has extended a flood advisory for Riverhead through late Monday night, Riverhead Town Police said in a media release Sunday afternoon.
Flooding caused by excessive rainfall remains possible town-wide, including minor flooding in urban areas and in rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, police said.
Showers and thunderstorms expected into Monday night are forecast to produce total rainfall of two to four inches, with hourly rainfall rates up to two inches possible. Those conditions could lead to flash flooding, police said.
Residents should remain alert for possible flood warnings, and those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action if flooding develops, police said.
In an emergency, call 911. For non-emergencies, contact Riverhead Town Police at 631-727-4500. For additional information, visit the National Weather Service.
