Veronica “Ronnie” Matovcik of Laurel died July 28, 2026, at home. She was 74 years old.

Born Nov. 19, 1951, in Brooklyn, she attended St. Agatha’s elementary school and graduated from Fontbonne Hall Academy in Bay Ridge. June 23, 1974, at Our Lady of Częstochowa Church in Brooklyn, she married Gerard “Jerry” Matovcik, and together they built a home in Rocky Point centered around their two children, Heather and Melissa. Before her marriage, she worked as an auditor in the international division of Citibank in Manhattan. While raising her daughters, she worked in office administration and later earned an associate degree in nursing.

She was an active member of St. Anthony’s Church in Rocky Point, where she created and taught faith formation classes for children, served on the liturgy committee and RCIA, and served as a Eucharistic minister to the sick and homebound. She also enjoyed Sundays at St. Patrick’s Parish in Southold. Her family said she enjoyed spending time in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., and frequently traveled to visit art museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Frick and the Barnes.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry; her children, Heather (Jay) and Melissa; her grandchildren, Juliet Renee, Violet Veronica, Kenneth Gerard and Nolan Thomas; and Greg (Laura).

The family will receive visitors Monday, Aug. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. A Mass will be held Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Southold, followed by interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
