A downed tree on Fishel Avenue in Riverhead Sept. 26, 2026. RiverheadLOCAL/Peter Blasl

Riverhead residents and business owners whose properties were damaged by last weekend’s nor’easter are being asked to report their losses through a New York State online form.

The town and the Suffolk County Office of Emergency Management are gathering information about the Sept. 25–27 storm, which affected parts of Riverhead and other areas of the county, according to a Wednesday release from Riverhead Town Police. The reports will go directly to the state and may help officials document damage and support potential requests for federal assistance.

The form covers damage to a primary residence or business. The town’s notice lists indoor flooding, damage to personal property or business inventory, a tree striking a building, extensive roof, wall or electrical damage, and a total loss as examples. It asks people to report damage even if they are uninsured or unsure how serious it is, and to include photos if they can take them safely.

Damage to vehicles, fences and retaining walls is not covered by this form.

Residents can submit a damage report online. Filing a report documents the storm’s impact; it is not an application for financial assistance. The notice also advises homeowners to contact their insurance companies.

In RiverheadLOCAL’s preliminary account of the storm’s effects, town officials reported beach erosion and damage to the covers of two highway department storage facilities, but no significant structural damage to town facilities.
