Riverhead was the scene of two very different but equally peaceful protests today, both called to condemn police violence against African-Americans following the death of an African-American Minneapolis man as he was being arrested by police on May 25.

Two separate events are planned in Riverhead today in response to the death of an unarmed African American man during his arrest in Minneapolis on May 25 —an arrest, captured on video, that has sparked outrage and protests across the U.S.

Upwards of 110 people demonstrated on the streets of downtown Riverhead today to protest the killings of black men by police around the country.

A demonstration in response to the shootings of two black men by police officers this week is being planned downtown Sunday. Riverhead native Vanessa Vascez-Corleone said she is organizing the demonstration to in the hope that people join together and take a stand against what has been going on.
