Signs naming the Halsey Manor Road overpass in memory of NYPD Det. Brian Simonsen were unveiled during dedication ceremonies today, the hero cop's 48th birthday.

Yesterday, K9 Reis was formally named for fallen C.O. Andrew Reister and presented with a vest in memory of fallen NYPD Transit Police Det. George Caccavale by the Det. Brian 'Smiles' Simonsen Memorial Foundation, Blue Lives Matter K9 and Capital K9 Association.

Family, friends, neighbors and colleagues gathered Thursday evening to remember NYPD Detective Brian Simonsen of Calverton in a candlelight prayer service at his gravesite in Jamesport Cemetery.

A graveside prayer service in Jamesport will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, the one-year anniversary of the officer's interment there following his Feb. 12 line-of-duty death. It will be followed by a gathering at Jamesport Fire Department headquarters.

NYPD Det. Brian Simonsen will be honored by Heidi’s Helping Angels at the organization’s 10th annual fundraising dinner on Oct. 17.

South Jamesport Avenue today received the honorary designation "Det. Brian Simonsen Way" at ceremonies attended by his family, friends, dozens of fellow officers and elected officials.

The Riverhead Blue Waves paid homage to fallen NYPD detective and Riverhead High School alumnus Brian “Smiles” Simonsen today, retiring his baseball jersey number 21 in special pregame ceremonies on the baseball diamond.

The June 15 ceremony will include the unveiling of a street sign bearing the name 'Det. Brian Simonsen Way.'

A fundraiser for the Detective Brian ‘Smiles’ Simonsen Memorial Foundation has been set for Sunday, May 19 at the Inn at East Wind in Wading River.
