Lack of cutting-edge internet technology will prevent Suffolk from competing in the global economy, County Executive Steve Bellone told a crowd Saturday at Riverhead Town Hall, where CWA Local 1108 organized a rally to demand that the state PSC order the company to built out its fiber optic network across the county.

Riverhead Supervisor Sean Walter will host a town hall meeting Nov. 8 on the future availability of Verizon's fiber optic network in Riverhead and across eastern Suffolk. The company says it has no plans to extend the network eastward — ever.
